Although North Mississippi is in a transition zone, for the most part, we find that warm-season grasses tend to work best here. Those would be grasses suited for warm climates (hot summers and mild winters). Except for Fescue, the other two grasses on the list above are warm-season grasses.

These warm-season grasses seem to thrive here, even with our intense summer heat. They can also tolerate our variety of soil types. We’ve cared for numerous lawns in New Albany, and we can confidently say that these two grass types will deliver the best results.

While some lawns do have Fescue, this is a cool-season grass that could struggle during our hot and humid summers. Of the many types of cool-season grass, Fescue tends to be the most tolerant of some heat.

We usually see Fescue used on shady lawns. That’s typically where it will perform best in our region.

Bermudagrass Benefits

Bermudagrass is known to be able to stand up to heat and drought, making it a good choice for hot and humid North Mississippi. It can also withstand heavy foot traffic and usage pretty well, making it a nice grass choice for families.

Bermudagrass Cons
